Teaser: A former Baltimore homicide detective, Ignatious "Nate" Burke, accepts a new job as the chief of police in Lunacy, Alaska. It is a far cry (and about 35 degrees) from the hustle and bustle of the big city of which he is familiar. But a tragedy befell him in Boston, and Nate welcomes the cold isolation more than anyone can guess.
Nate is not welcomed by all of the town's people, but one guest leaves a quick impression on him--Meg Galloway. She's a tough as nails, independent bush pilot with a huge chip on her shoulder. The two of them are drawn close together as the crimes starts piling up around Nate. He had hoped for some easy police work, but Lunacy proves to be as complicated as Boston and twice as dangerous.
Short Thought: Unique, sexy, with a splash of crime drama.
Expanded Thoughts: Okay, I have to admit that I read this novel because of the Lifetime movie that was just on television. It also had LeAnn Rimes in it. (Love country music!)
This was actually miles better than the movie. There are more characters and the major characters are developed very deeply.
It focuses on Nate as he tries to piece his life back together after the death of his partner in Baltimore and the failure of his marriage. His presence in the town really stirs up trouble for the people who hate change.
My only complaint is that the relationship in this one was all over the place and not as good as the other Nora Roberts novels I have read. It was still good, but too rushed and it didn't build very much throughout.
Recommended Especially For: The crime drama fan who has a stash of romance books, oh, and Tivo's of Lifetime movies.
Additional Thoughts: This novel does contain some mildly graphic scenes of a sexual nature. Also, there are scenes of mild violence.
